Spring Field Trip for International Students and Researchers

Thursday, March 8, we had a field trip to East Shiga for the international students and researchers, and their family members visiting the old town of Gokasho, the former Ohmi merchant residential area, and The Mizukuki Ceramic Art Class and the Minamide Strawberry Farm.

In the Gokasho district, we enjoyed seeing around traditional townscape with quaint canal. It was fascinating to see the gorgeous Hina dolls that have been passed down from generations, displayed in the historical residences.

In the lunchtime, we enjoyed the dishes made by Shiga’s local ingredients. Then, we tried to paint the ceramics at the Mizukuki-yaki pottery studio.

Strawberry picking was also exciting experience for all participants, adults and children. We were fully satisfied with sweet and fresh berries.

It was a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to learn the history and tradition of Shiga.
