Annual Excursion for International Students and Researchers
From Friday, December 1 to Saturday, December 2, we had an excursion for international students, researchers and their family members. A total number of 16 participants joined in the tour to Awaji Island, Hyogo and Tokushima.
On the first day, we visited the Hokudan Earthquake Memorial Park in Awaji Island. They reserve and exhibit the earthquake fault moved by the Great Hanshin earthquake happened in 1995. We learned the mechanism and damages of the quake and experienced the two different types of shakings - one same as caused in Kobe and the other same as caused in Tohoku in 2011 at the simulator. After having lunch, we headed to Otsuka Museum of Art in Naruto, Tokushima. They house a thousand of the replica ceramics of masterpieces of Western art from antiquity to the modern day. The actual size of ceramic board works manufactured in Shigaraki, Shiga overwhelmed and fascinated us.
At the hotel, we enjoyed the seafood dinner and the Awa dance performance.
Next day, we watched the traditional puppet show at the Puppet Theater and Museum in Tokushima city. A guide taught us how to move the dolls and its long history from hundreds years ago. We were really moved by their passionate performance and enthusiasm.
The tour participants were very satisfied with cultural and educational experiences, beautiful scenery and great foods in this two days excursion.
